    Concept Note:
    ‘Lotf’ relates to gentleness.
    The step by step pattern construction or analysis of the Dome of Sheikh lotfollah mosque, Isfahan. A 17th century Safavid Mosque. Which was exclusively used by Females. The cupola shaped dome has 289 shamsas or cusps shape in it which is the abjab value of Al Rahim (the merciful) which has root connections with the word ‘Womb’ (Rahim in Arabic).
    Red Gouache paint is handmade with traditional Sindoor pigment. Red, the color of blood. Red is symbolic of physical and emotional survival.
    The construction process of the pattern from the origin circle to the creation of layers of Cusps to infinite. Everything symbolizes the state of being a mother. Her creation, her struggle,  her growth and her journey from nothingness to whole.

  • Wiladat – i, ii, iii (birth)
    Concept Note:
    The Islamic geometric patterns are enclosed in a Vesica shape. Vesica, a latin word which means vessel or container in Islamic geometry, is symbolic of the door between heaven and Earth. It is also a symbol of ‘birth’ as when the two circles overlap a vesica is formed. Formation of Vesica is an essential step towards the creation of all geometric patterns.
